I was born in Rome, Italy in 1941; my 'passion' for photography became evident during my early years; 'passion' because photography has never been my profession nor one of my hobbies, just a deep 'passion.' And my love for the sea and the underwater world was also evident at a very young age; I can still remember the day my mother bought my first mask, a full face Pirelli, this was in 1950! I started scuba in 1960 and a few years later in 1964, I bought my first U/W housing, a Rolleimarin with a Rolleiflex, a medium format camera; I was the first to introduce in Italy the use of U/W strobe light, at that time photographers were still using the 'old' bulbs!
In 1967, during a trip to Sudan, diving the Red Sea I was fortunate enough to encounter a Manta Ray giving birth. Equipped with my Rolleimarin I captured some of the most incredible images , these are the only images on record depicting the birth of a Manta Ray! Then in 1969, I won the Silver Star (second place) at the International Underwater Photographic Contest, the Premio Maurizio Sarra in Italy.
I now live in Belize, Central America, where I manage my last achievement, Kanantik Reef & Jungle Resort. I was always impressed by the wonders and beauty of the wilderness, the wildlife, the people and the underwater world; what better place than Belize and Central and South America to shoot with the new digital toys? I recently started taking U/W video, please click here to have a look at it.
Living in the wilderness gives me the opportunity to take many images of wildlife almost every day. The website is updated frequently so check back often and if you have any comment please feel free to contact me any time. Thank you for visiting my website!
